BHAG is an excellent way to establish a clear and defining purpose for any course or program. Especially when you are building something on a larger scale as a school-wide initiative. It provides a guiding vision that goes beyond dull tasks and encourages everyone to see the bigger picture.
The point about encouraging learners to connect the dots rather than merely collect them is fundamental to fostering meaningful learning experiences. It emphasizes the importance of not just acquiring knowledge but actively applying it, and finding the connections between pieces of information. In math, we always make the connection of the math concept to the real-world example.
In my classroom, I incorporate a lot of partners and group work, encouraging my students to collaborate with each other. This allows for diverse perspectives, which can lead to a more comprehensive understanding of the presenting concepts.
