My Applied Digital Learning (ADL) Journey

ADL COURSEWORK

EDLD 5305 Disruptive Innovation in Education: For a while, I considered implementing an e-portfolio but never took the plunge. The ADL program provided the perfect opportunity to take action. In this course, I created an innovation proposal to incorporate e-portfolios, enabling students to track their learning progress, have a voice, and showcase their achievements. I validated the proposal’s effectiveness through a literature review, highlighting its significance. Subsequently, I detailed the implementation plan in an outline, mapping out the steps for execution.

EDLD 5302 Concepts of Educational Technology: This course introduced me to the distinction between fixed and growth mindsets, inspired by Carol Dweck’s research. I developed a growth mindset plan to share this concept with my campus. As I progressed, I expanded my professional learning networks and crafted my learning manifesto. The course introduced the COVA approach, encouraging me to take ownership of my learning. Developing my voice was challenging, but the process enhanced my ability to utilize COVA in my classroom.

EDLD 5303 Apply Educational Technology-E-Portfolio: This course allowed me to develop and enhance my e-portfolio. I explored its purpose, ownership, and benefits. Engaging in reflective practices and collaborating with peers provided valuable insights and facilitated my growth. The course equipped me to continue enhancing my e-portfolio, showcasing my experiences and learning throughout the ADL program.

EDLD 5313 Creating Significant Learning Environments: By exploring "significant learning environments," I examined the limitations of conventional models and embraced a learner-centered culture. Creating such environments requires understanding the new culture of learning, making authentic connections, and fostering a growth mindset. The course introduced Fink’s 3-column learning outcomes table, BHAG, and Understanding by Design, helping me develop significant learning environments for my learners.

EDLD 5304 Leading Organizational Change: This course delved into understanding and implementing organizational change. We explored essential topics such as understanding our why, mastering the influencer strategy, installing 4DX, becoming a self-differentiated leader, and navigating crucial conversations. I learned to communicate effectively, create influence, overcome resistance to change, and drive innovation by setting clear goals and utilizing my leadership skills.

EDLD 5317 Resources for Digital Environments: This course focuses on ongoing discussion and analysis of existing digital learning resources to understand and evaluate their practicality and value for educational use. Throughout this course, I gained a deeper understanding of the diverse range of digital resources available for enhancing learning. From researching educational technology trends to exploring media software programs (media project), I learned practical strategies for effectively utilizing digital tools in educational contexts. Engaging in discussions and hands-on activities helped me develop critical evaluation skills and innovative approaches to integrating digital resources into teaching and learning practices. Moreover, this course also give me an opportunity to delve deeper into technology trend, e-portfolios, while honing my writing skills for publication.

EDLD 5318 Instructional Design in Online Learning: In this course, I delved into instructional design fundamentals and created a 5-week course on financial literacy for seventh graders. I learned to create student-centered courses with clear objectives, activities, and assessments, utilizing traditional classroom instruction and online collaboration. Implementing the course on Canvas honed my skills in structuring courses and fostering engaging learning experiences. In addition, with Usability testing, I refined my course design, ensuring optimal usability for learners.

EDLD 5389 Developing Effective Professional Development: This course transformed my understanding and approach to professional learning. The "Call to Action" emphasized shifting from passive "sit & get" methods to active "go & show" strategies, focusing on the 5 Key Principles of Effective Professional Learning. Planning the Alternative PL addressed educators' specific needs and fostered collaboration. Connecting and Communicating Ideas highlighted effective communication and alignment with instructional design frameworks, ensuring impactful professional learning.

EDLD 5315 Assessing Digital Learning and Instruction: This course provided invaluable insights into conducting action research and literature reviews. The Action Research Design Outline taught me to identify a research topic, define a purpose, and formulate a research question. I learned to justify the choice of research design, specify data collection types, and select measurement instruments. The Literature Review helped me contextualize my research, identify major themes, and narrow the focus. This process, along with developing a measurement strategy and effectively communicating my ideas, has equipped me for future research endeavors.

EDLD 5320 Synthesis of Applied Digital Learning: As the program concludes, I reflect on synthesizing my learning to enhance effectiveness. The ADL program, influenced by the COVA approach, allowed me to make choices, take ownership, and express my voice through authentic assignments. Reflecting on this journey, I value this learning environment and plan to implement these principles in my organization. The Innovation Project Update helped me assess progress, refine strategies, and communicate my work effectively. With the support from professors and classmates, and embracing a growth mindset, I’ve achieved numerous successes and learned valuable lessons, feeling equipped to implement my innovation project and tackle new challenges.
